WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP

Pastor Sue’s riff on St. Paul’s 1 Cor. 13:4-8a
Love is patient; love is kind;
Better than roses or a box of Dove chocolates?
Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
Even if my friends see me go to dinner and movie in a limousine?
Love does not insist on its own way; it’s not irritable or disrespectful;
It does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth.
What?! Love DOES mean you have to say you’re sorry?
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Whoa….I don’t know about signing up for that—who could do all THAT?!!
Love never ends.
Oh! I get it! God is Love!
Together: In God, we learn to love. Thanks be to God!

READINGS FROM SCRIPTURE:
Mark 9: 2-10 New Revised Standard Version
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart,
by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as
no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking
with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the
Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but
only Jesus.
As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen,
until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning
what this rising from the dead could mean.

Our Father/Mother/Creator, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
